Aims of the Accident Register Web Site

  1. to provide an accurate account of accidents and near misses that happen during rope-related, canyon and bush activities throughout Australia.
  2. to make the information available on a website to all adventurers and interested readers in order to increase the awareness of the causes of accidents.
  3. to offer the media an accurate alternative to the current ad hoc approach used to gather material on accidents, which has in the past led to inaccurate reporting of some accidents.
  4. to encourage unsolicited information on all accidents and near misses whether incurred by recreational adventurers, commercial adventurers, individuals or groups.
  5. to supplement the unsolicited information by acquiring information if required.
  6. to avoid identifying individuals or groups in order to encourage maximum cooperation. If a fatality occurs and the deceased's name is on the public record (due to previous media coverage) we will list the name.
  7. to strive for accuracy
  8. to cooperate with authorities including rescue authorities and the coroner where sensitive material may be detrimental to their efforts. There may also be legal reasons for withholding some information.
